The Heritage of Lucknowi Chikankari
Behind every piece of authentic Lucknowi Chikankari lies a process that begins long before the first stitch. Originating in Lucknow, India, this centuries-old craft passes through multiple stages before becoming a finished garment. Designs are transferred onto fabric through hand block printing, after which skilled artisans embroider each motif using traditional stitches such as Bakhiya, Phanda, Murri, Keel Kangan, Hool, Ghas Patti, and Jaali. The fabric is then washed, dyed when required, finished, and carefully inspected.
Once worked primarily on fine muslin, Chikankari today is practiced on a range of fabrics including cotton, modal, linen, chiffon, georgette, chanderi, and silk blends. What distinguishes the craft is its extensive stitch vocabulary, the precision of the needlework, and the level of handwork involved in creating each piece.
At Fiza Chikan, we work directly with artisans in Lucknow to bring authentic hand-embroidered Lucknowi Chikankari to clients across the UAE and around the world, supporting traditional craftsmanship while presenting it through contemporary silhouettes and fabrics.
